Frequently Asked Questions about Elective Ultrasounds
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is an Elective Ultrasound?
An Elective Ultrasound is one that expectant parents choose to do and does not require a prescription or order from a Medical Doctor. They have been proven to provide a positive bonding experience for the mother, father, and family members with their unborn baby. These ultrasounds do not in any way replace the full diagnostic ultrasound you must receive at your doctor’s office.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes! We offer 15% off of any package to teachers, first responders, nurses, and active military personnel. We also offer a variety of midweek and monthly specials.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 2D, 3D, 4D, AND HD ULTRASOUND?
2D ultrasound is a black and white ultrasound that you are probably used to seeing at your doctor visits. 3D ultrasound adds another dimension to the 2D ultrasound, thereby giving you a better idea of what your baby looks like “in real life.” 4D ultrasound adds the dimension of time, and is, in essence, a live 3D ultrasound. During a 4D ultrasound you will see your baby moving in 3D! HD “High Definition” is the very latest in ultrasound technology. HD images are similar in color to 3D ultrasound images but provide stunning views of your baby by offering better depth perception and much clearer views of the baby’s lips, nose, and eye lids.
What if I don't want to know the gender?
No problem! The area of the baby’s gender can easily be avoided throughout the ultrasound. We are also happy to notify a bakery of your choice of the gender or provide you with the gender determination in a seal envelope.
Do I need an Appointment?
Yes, it is important that you contact us to schedule an appointment. You can do so on our Scheduling page or by contacting us at: (443) 961-3385
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO SCHEDULE A 3D/4D ULTRASOUND APPOINTMENT?
The best time for a 3D/4D session is between 24-33 weeks. After 33 weeks your baby is a bit bigger and there is less amniotic fluid to help us get the best pictures.
I’M HAVING TWINS! DOES IT COST DOUBLE?
No, you get two for the price of one! Just keep in mind, we can’t guarantee the highest quality images of each individual baby since they are sharing such a small space.
How much does it cost?
We have packages to fit just about anyone’s budget. Please refer to our Services page for more information on available packages and upgrades!
Is it Safe?
Sweet Peek Sonography uses the same medical imaging equipment that is used by medical centers and hospitals and it as safe as the machine used over and over again at your OB’s office. Ultrasound technology has been studied over the past 30 years and has not been shown to cause any harm to the mother or baby.
WILL THIS ULTRASOUND TAKE THE PLACE OF AN ULTRASOUND ORDERED BY MY DOCTOR?
Absolutely Not! All of our ultrasounds are elective and should never be done in place of a diagnostic ultrasound ordered by your doctor.
Will this ultrasound be covered by my insurance?
No, all the ultrasounds we perform are elective and therefore will not be covered by your insurance. You can pay in the form of cash or credit.
Who can I bring to my Ultrasound?
Sweet Peek encourages you to invite family and friends to share in this joyous experience of your ultrasound session. This includes the little one’s brothers and sisters! Please let us know approximately how many people you expect when you schedule your appointment.
HOW EARLY CAN I HAVE A GENDER DETERMINATION APPOINTMENT?
You must be at least 14 weeks. If you are a fuller figured mom it is best to wait until 16 or 17 weeks as more tissue around the middle makes it harder to be confident right at 14 weeks.
IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD DO BEFORE COMING TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Drink plenty of water! In order to get high quality pictures, it is important that you stay hydrated.
WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
Here at Sweet Peek we have invested in the highly-rated “GE Voluson S8” – State-of-the-Art System. It has the newest software technology, and will allow you to see your baby in 3D, 4D and HD.
What is your refund policy?
In rare instances, some babies do not cooperate on the first visit and we are unable to get the necessary shots. Our policy is to attempt up to two additional scans to obtain those shots. In the very unlikely event that we are still unable to determine the baby’s gender (Gender Packages 1-4) or get a shot of the baby’s face (3D/4D Experience Packages 1-4), we will refund the difference between the amount you paid and the cheapest package in the same category.
